Bali Airport SIM Card Pickup: Step-by-Step Process After You Land

Quick answer: After landing at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, clear immigration and Customs, follow the pickup instructions, show your order and passport, complete any required operator registration, then test mobile data with Wi-Fi turned off before leaving the counter.

Page purpose: This page covers the airport pickup process only. For choosing a product, read How to Buy a SIM Card in Bali.

Before your flight

  • Confirm that the phone is network-unlocked.
  • Check the exact model and regional variant if you ordered an eSIM.
  • Save the order confirmation offline or take a screenshot.
  • Use the same traveler name that appears on the passport.
  • Check the current pickup point and opening hours on the Find Us page.
  • Keep enough battery for installation, registration and testing.

Bali Airport SIM pickup: step by step

  1. Complete the arrival formalities. Follow the normal immigration, baggage and Customs process. SIM pickup does not bypass any airport queue or entry requirement.
  2. Open your pickup instructions. Use airport Wi-Fi if needed, but keep a screenshot in case the connection is unstable.
  3. Find the stated counter. Follow the current instructions rather than an old map or social-media photo. Our airport counter guide compares pickup with other buying options.
  4. Show the order and travel document. Staff need to match the reservation to the traveler. The operator may request passport and device details for registration.
  5. Confirm the product before installation. Check the operator, data allowance, validity and whether calls, SMS or an Indonesian number are included.
  6. Complete registration and activation. The exact process depends on the operator and product. A preorder reserves the product; it does not guarantee that every local-operator line is active before identity and device checks.
  7. Install the SIM or eSIM. Insert the physical card or follow the eSIM installation instructions. Keep the home line enabled only if you need it, and make sure mobile data is assigned to the Indonesian plan.
  8. Test the connection. Turn off Wi-Fi, load a webpage and check the displayed network. Test voice or SMS only when included.
  9. Save support details. Keep the product name, validity, top-up instructions and current support contact.

SIM registration is not the same as Customs IMEI registration

For a short tourist visit, the operator registration route and Customs IMEI registration are separate processes. Do not pay for or submit to a process you do not understand. Read our SIM registration and IMEI guide, which links to the current Indonesian Customs information.

If something does not work

No mobile data

Check that the new line is enabled and selected for mobile data. Toggle airplane mode, restart the phone and confirm any operator-specific APN instructions. Test again with Wi-Fi off.

The phone rejects the SIM

Ask whether the message indicates a carrier lock, SIM error or registration problem. A SIM slot alone does not prove the phone is unlocked.

The eSIM will not install

Confirm the exact model, regional variant, active internet connection and whether the activation code has already been used. Do not delete an installed profile unless instructed by the provider.

Your flight is delayed

Check the current hours and contact the pickup team through the Find Us page. Operational details can change, so do not rely on a cached search snippet.

Frequently asked questions

How long does airport pickup take?

There is no guaranteed duration. It depends on the queue, product, device and registration checks. Keep the required information ready and allow time before meeting a driver.

Can another person collect my SIM?

Do not assume so. Local-operator registration may require the traveler, passport and device. Confirm the rule for the specific order before arrival.

Should I leave before the activation finishes?

No. Test the connection while support is available. Loading a page over airport Wi-Fi does not prove the mobile plan works.
